Eros and Psyche

Eros was the son of Aphrodite and the god of love (kind of the greek version of cupid except he was usually dipicted as an adult rather than a baby) when Aphrodite heard about Psyche, whose beauty challenged her own she sent Eros to fix this problem. intead he fell in love with her, but he didn't want her to know who he was. so he brought her to his palace and told her that she was not allowed to look at him. she was content with this, but when her sisters came to visit they suggested that her husband might be some terrible monster and tole Psyche to look and see while he was sleeping. she did, and discover that her love was none other than the god Eros. However, a drop of hot wax from her candle fell onto him waking him up. He left her saying that without trust there is no love. Aphrodite then made her go through seemingly impossible tasks to prove herself, but there was always a mysterious voice helping her and she was able to accomplish all of them. as it turned out the voice was Eros, and since she had proven her love, they got back together and everyone was happy. beauty and the beast is loosely based on this myth.
